LEAH Foundation Pledges Support for Infants
The LEAH Charity Foundation has promised to continue to support infant orphans with adequate milk formulas.
This promise was made in Ilorin on Monday by the founder of the foundation and wife of Kwara State governor, Mrs. Omolewa Ahmed.
Mrs. Ahmed, who was speaking during the WAMCO Goodness of Milk Campaign in the state capital, said milk contains large amounts of beneficial health nutrients for the development and maintenance of healthy bones.
"It also prevents ailments such as osteoporosis and respiratory problems", the governor's wife pointed out.
"Other major components of milk are dietary iodine which helps in the formation of thyroxin hormone and potassium which helps maintain fluid balance in the body".
According to her, LEAH Charity Foundation through its health intervention desk has been giving out baby milk formula support to infants who lost their mothers and those that have difficulty drawing from their mother's milk due to illnesses or diseases.
"This is part of our resolve at ensuring that these children get enough milk to see them through infancy", she stated.
According to her, WAMCO should be credited for instituting this initiative without brand bias, imploring other milk manufacturing companies to emulate the good deed of WAMCO.
She explained that milk is a dependable source of calcium which is essential for strong and healthy bones, teeth and nails, adding that since the body cannot produce calcium, daily intake of milk is essential throughout life for immunity against diseases.
"We shall continue to intensify efforts to sensitize the people on the need to include milk in their daily diets so as to achieve a well balanced diets for growth and preventable diseases, both in the young and the old", she said.
The Leader of the campaign team, Abdul Joshua, said that the company was in the state for enlightenment campaign, and to complement LEAH Foundation's efforts.
According to him, the company would not relent in its effort to make milk available at affordable prices.
A nutritionist from the Department of Home Economics of the University of 1Iorin, Mutiat Balogun, explained the importance of milk in the body.
She encouraged people to cultivate the habit of taking milk, adding that milk increases fertility and contains all the nutrients in food.
