Commercial Vehicle Crushes One in Ilorin
A woman was killed on Sunday evening in Ilorin when a commercial vehicle rammed into a couple as they stood by the roadside.
The victim's male companion who only a week before had graduated from Al-Hikmah University in the Kwara State capital, survived the accident with injuries.
The victim, whose identity could not be ascertained at the time of this report, was said to have died on the spot.
The incident, which occurred at Odota area, some few meters to the Ilorin International airport, threw residents and onlookers into confusion.
The car, belonging to KASMAG transport service in Ilorin, was reported to have rammed into the victim and her male companion, after scaling the road median, turning the scene of the incident to a gory sight.
The lady, according to an eyewitness account, met her untimely death shortly after she visited her male friend.
While the lady died instantly, his boyfriend sustained a serious injury and was taken to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital for medical attention.
The injured, according the source, graduated from Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin in the penultimate Saturday 2nd convocation of the institution.
The driver and occupants of the ill-fated car escaped unhurt.
The eyewitness said; "It was like a stage drama to me. Where I was standing, I saw the vehicle ramming into the victims after buying fuel at Musphalla Petrol Station on Odota road.
"After veering off the road, the car hit a street light and later hit the KWMC roro-bin where the victims were standing to board a taxi-cab.
"The lady died on the spot while the boyfriend had his skull gushed out.
"As for the driver and other occupants of the car, they escaped unhurt. It was very scary that I had to run away later", she said.
