Date: 2019-12-30

Kwara Basketball Veterans on Sunday began the renovation of the outdoor basketball court inside the state township stadium as part of activities to mark their end of the year programme.

The President of the group, Abdullahi Ahmed, said his body remains committed to the growth of sports development in the state.

Ahmed said that the group decided to take on the extra responsibility of assisting the state government in its efforts to revamp all sectors of the state.

He said this led to the renovation of the basketball court that could stand the test of time in serving future generations.

While reacting to the development at the event, the state Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Joanna Kolo, commended the veterans for renovating the outdoor court.

She urged individuals and corporate bodies to cultivate the habit of improving their various communities.

"I would like to thank veterans for developing this sports facility which indicates their firm commitment to the welfare of the community as this will allow players to come out to showcase their talents," she said

Similarly, the Chairman of the Kwara State Basketball Association, Dr Joseph Adeyemo reaffirmed the association's efforts in developing the game from the grassroots.

He urged the current administration in the state to support the association and the veterans to make provision for the replica of the sports complex in all the local governments of the state.

While applauding the veterans clubs, Coach Tunde Kazeem, Kwara Director of Sports, solicited support for the establishment of more facilities which would go a long way in the development of abundant talents.

The Nigeria News Agency reports that during the occasion, a final game involving two local teams was played.

An exhibition game among the veterans was also on display, followed by shooting contest and award presentation.
