Date: 2019-08-20

Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq waits for an office to be opened after resumption time at the state secretariat, during his unscheduled visit to the old secretariat in Ilorin, Kwara State yesterday, where scores of civil servants were late to work Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq yesterday locked out hundreds of workers outside the main gate of the Old Secretariat in Ilorin for late coming, warming that late coming to work is unhelpful for government business in the 21st century. He had paid a surprise visit to the state secretariat where all the offices were still under lock and key as of 9am.

The governor got there at about 7.55am, but only few workers were at work.

Hundreds of workers who came late to work were still locked outside the main gate by the time AbdulRazaq left the secretariat few minutes before 10am.

The governor said: "Late coming and poor attitude to work certainly will not be tolerated. The civil service should be business-like and efficient in service delivery.

As we try to support the civil service to deliver on its mandate, we expect a drastic shift from old practices that have taken our state nowhere"

Abdulrazaq also on Sunday paid an impromptu visit to the Children’s Hospital at Centre Igboro to check the state of facilities there. He commended the staff of the hospital for their exemplary service beyond the call of duty.

AbdulRazaq has also directed the Kwara State Scholarship Board to present a memo detailing the state of students' bursary and scholarship.
