In its effort to empower widows in its community, Kwara State University, Malete, has inaugurated a widows empowerment scheme through its Centre for Community Development.

At the inauguration of the scheme in Ilorin, the university distributed cash to 10 widows from Malete.

In his speech on the occasion, Prof. Abdularasheed Na'allah, the Vice- chancellor, said the university decided to embark on the scheme to show appreciation to its host community.

He advised beneficiaries of the scheme to make judicious use of the money by embarking on meaningful ventures that would help to improve their socio-economic status.

He commended Dr Mashood Jimba, the initiator of the scheme, for his determination to ensure its success.

In his remark, Jimba of the Department of Arabic studies, said the widow empowerment scheme would assist widows embark on profitable ventures.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Hajia Suebat Ayuba, commended the university for its assistance and prayed for the successful tenure of the vice-chancellor and workers of the university.
