Kwara female teams win handball championship

Kwara state U-21 girls handball team have won the U-18 and U-21 National Handball Championship just concluded over the weekend in Lagos.

The girls clinched the trophy beating Lagos 25-15, FCT 41-20 and walked over Ogun state to garner the maximum nine points.

In the male category, Kwara State team came second by defeating Bayelsa, FCT, and Nasarawa but lost to the host state, Lagos in the last match.

As a result of their performance, two girls from Kwara state, Yusuf Muinat and Nuhu Wuraola have been invited to the national camp in preparation for the zonal elimination game scheduled for Burkina Faso in May for the All Africa Games to be hosted by Morocco.

Similarly, three of the players won individual award with Taiye Ibrahim winning the Most Valuable player, Adio Ayisat clinched the best goalkeeper of the tournament while Idowu Abdulrasaq emerged the highest goal scorer, netting thirty one goals.

In another development, three Kwara State Table Tennis players, Rofiat Jimoh, Falana Iyanuoluwa and Shukurat Aiyelabegan and their coach, Kehinde Aiyelabegan are in Accra, Ghana for the 2019 International Table Tennis Federation World Junior Circuit and Africa Junior and Cadet Championship.

Receiving the victorious handball players, the Kwara State Director of Sports, Mallam Tunde Kazeem commended the athletes for their brilliant performance and praised the State Handball Association led by Mr Emmanuel Olubiyo for their financial and moral supports.

Kazeem also charged the Table Tennis players to be good ambassadors of the state and the nation by winning laurels.
