Residents lament power outage at Ibrahim Taiwo area

Date: 2012-02-17

Residents of Ibrahim Taiwo area in Ilorin, Kwara state, have decried the prolonged power outage in the area.

In a letter sent to the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), a copy of which was made available to journalists in Ilorin during the week, the residents alleged that electricity supply had gone so bad in the area in the past four months.

The letter, which was signed by the youth chairman, Adekunle Samuel; the youth secretary, Jacob Hassan; and youth coordinator, Akinbimi Segun, stated that two buildings were burnt in the course of the blackout, adding that a girl was badly injured when she was fueling a power generating set.

The youths said that it was  men of the fire service that came to the rescue of the occupants of the building.

The further alleged that, "initially, we used to get power supply between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.; and 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. on daily basis, which we were coping with, but now, we hardly have light for up to one hour at Ibrahim Taiwo area."

The residents, therefore, urged the relevant authorities to come to their aid, saying the situation was becoming unbearable.
