Kwara applauds IGP on security apparatus

PROMINENT indigenes of Kwara state have commended the Inspector General of Police on plans to strengthen security apparatus in the state.

The people, who spoke in separate interviews with the Nigerian Tribune, said that the plan to deploy three Mobile Force Units, provide more armed personnel and Armoured Personnel Carriers would improve security, especially in Offa community.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mallam Saliu Mustapha urged both the Federal and State governments to increase security funding by providing necessary gadgets and sophisticated weapons for security personnel to enhance their work.

Mallam Mustapha, who called for effective community policing by providing necessary information to the law enforcement agencies about any suspicious movement, charged security agencies to apprehend all perpetrators of the Offa bank robbery and bring them to book to face justice.

Also speaking, a stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP in Kwara state, Architect Lola Ashiru, described the recent armed robbery attack in the ancient town as unacceptable, recalling that Offa had been the target of armed robbers, in recent years particularly the commercial institutions located in the town, a situation which he noted had subjected the people to live in palpable fear of attacks at anytime.

Architect Ashiru expressed the need for further collaboration of all the security agencies with a view to finding a lasting solution to the security challenges in Offa and the state at large.

He also enjoined the citizens to always provide the needed information to the security outfits, saying such measures would enhance their operations and further make the state conducive for peace to thrive.

In his comment, a PDP governorship aspirant in the state, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, urged Kwara State Government to emulate other states in Nigeria by providing effective and complementary support to the Nigerian Police Force to enhance security Statewide and protect the lives and property.

"I also enjoin the Nigerian Police to work assiduously in order to bring the perpetrators of this horrific act to justice in record time".
