Kwara Lawmaker splashes N2m cash, materials on Constituents

Date: 2018-03-31

A member representing Irepodun Constituency in the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Mathew Olaitan Babaoye, has said he has expended over N2million on empowerment programmes for people cutting across the 11 Wards of his constituency.

In the empowerment scheme, the lawmaker disclosed that a total of 22 Students from his constituency preparing for West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) had their examination fees paid.

Babaoye stated this in Omu-Aran, Irepodun Local Government Area of the state yesterday at the distribution of cash gift to his constituents preparatory to Easter Festivities.

He informed that he also defrayed the examination fees of another set of 22 Students, who sat for the just concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Babaoye, who chairs the House Committee on Works and Transport, also used the occasion to present his scorecard in almost three years of his representation in the state Assembly to the constituents.

He told the gathering that he took decision to present cash gesture to the people of his Constituency as part of measures to relieve them and cushion the adverse effects of the widespread cash crunch.

He assured that the state Assembly would continue to design legislative frameworks that would be geared toward the welfare and well being of the people.

The lawmaker also promised that the legislature would work in synergy with the executive arm to provide more infrastructural facilities across the 16 Local Government Areas of the state.

Babaoye appealed to the people to be steadfast in their support and cooperation for the present administration in the state.

Acknowledging the leadership quality of the President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, the lawmaker urged party loyalists and supporters not to renege their support and prayers for him in the bid to steer the ship of the state to the desired harbour.

He said, "We thank God Almighty that in almost three years that you gave us your mandate, we have not rest on our oars in being responsible and responsive to the yearnings and aspirations of our people.

"It is not in our character to highlight our achievements, we believe our people should be doing that because they would be in better position to judge us well. Let me inform you that we are using today's occasion to present our scorecard and for now, we have spent over N2million in our empowerment scheme through presentation of cash gift and payment of WAEC and JAMB fees of 22 Students. We selected two students each from the 11 wards that formed our constituency.

"Our pact with the people is represent them well and give them feedback on what we have been able to do since they elected us and entrusted us with their mandate. We decided to distribute cash gift to our people to enable them celebrate the Easter festivities with others. They should continue to support us", Babaoye said.
