Kwara Assembly urges release of N300m accreditation funds

Date: 2018-03-29

The Kwara House of Assembly on Wednesday urged Gov. AbdulFatah Ahmed to as a matter of urgency release the N300 million accreditation fund meant for the courses in all the state-owned tertiary institutions.

Jimoh Akanni-AbdulRahman, the chairman, House Committee on Education, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in llorin.

He said that the education committee of the house had secured paper approval for the release of the fund barely one month without cash backing.

The chairman called on the state government to do something urgently to ensure the quick release of the fund in order to allow the institutions procure necessary materials for the accreditation.

"We only secured approval without cash backing for the accreditation of courses, which will not be in the interest of students offering the affected courses," the chairman said. Mr Akanni-AbdulRahman warned the management of the state-owned tertiary institutions to desist from admitting students for unaccredited courses.

NAN recalls that the House had during series of its sittings in February directed its Education Committee to ensure the release of fund approved for the accreditation by the state executive before the end of March.
