Oloyede Explains Lapses in GNS Exams
... douses students' fear
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, has allayed the fears of students of the University over the results of GNS 112 and GNS 212 examinations taken through the Computer-based method in the 2011/2012 session's examinations.
He said information at his disposal was that there were minor technical hitches but assured that no student would be made to suffer for lapses that are not theirs.
Oloyede gave this assurance while addressing members of the executive committee of the Student Union who visited him in his office.
It would be recalled that rumour was rife last week that the affected students would re-take the examinations. The university has therefore dispelled the rumour that the problem has been addressed.
The Student Union President, Mr. Aremu Abdulmalik, had earlier at the meeting raised his concerns over the plight of the students who took the two courses, which results are said to be having some problems, expressing the fear that the students might be made to carry over the courses.
However, while acknowledging that reports got to him about a technical problem with GNS 112 and GNS 212, the Vice-Chancellor said he was made to understand that it was a "perception problem", which he believed could not be more than one per cent at any point in time.
"But now they are telling me that the problem affected more than 1,000 students and I now know that the problem is a major one", he said.
Oloyede explained that the latest information he got was that Electronic Test Company (ETC), the company handling the CBT programme has been able to retrieve the results of about 1,560 students from its back-up server, saying the University authority would hold the company responsible for CBT hitches.
He disclosed that he had directed the Dean of Student Affairs to ensure that all students' results are uploaded before the portal opens for the hostel accommodation form.
Oloyede also informed the student leader that ordered issues of concerned to students were being addressed while promising to do everything to ensure the success of the new Student Union leaders.
