KWACCIMA to partner MAN on Kwara moribound industries

The Kwara Chambers of Commerce Industry Mines and Agriculture (KWACCIMA) has disclosed plans towards reviving moribund industries in the state.

Towards this end, the Director General of KWACCIMA, Barr. Ayo Fagbemi, said the chamber would partner the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) Kwara/Kogi branch to facilitate intervention fund for the reactivation of the companies that have gone under.

According to him, the association would approach the state government for special funds to revive the moribund industries in order to boost the state economy. He said, "We are forming a synergy and we will approach the state government, to approve a special Trust funds for these moribund industries. Some of these industries, when revived, will absorb many unemployed youths in the society and in turn generate more revenue for the state," he added.

Meanwhile, findings by Pilot Business revealed that no fewer than 25 industries in the state have gone under within the past 30 years.

Most of the affected manufacturing firms were domiciled in Ilorin, the state capital and operated to full capacity.

The companies are Global Soap and Detergent Industry, Nefraday Farms Nigeria Limited, Nigeria Paper Mill, Okin Biscuits Nigeria Limited, Okin Foam, Okin Malt. Also included are Nobel Breweries Nigeria Limited, Resinoplast Nigeria limited, Union Steel Industry, Kay Plastic Nigeria limited, Appolo Electronic Nigeria limited, Rajrab Pharmaceutical Limited, Odun Ade Industry, Tate and Lyle Nigeria limited, Bacita Sugar Company, Patigi Rice Mill.

Others are Kwara Textile Limited, Josedam Sugar Bacita, Lafiagi Sugar Company, Kwara Commercial Metal and Chemical Industry, Panat Feeds Nigeria limited, Olalomi Carpet, Demosco Nigeria Ltd, Nigeria Yeast and Ethanol Company and Erin-Ile paper Converter.
