Our Projects Are Driven By Tax Payers - Gov Ahmed

Date: 2017-06-09

Kwara State Governor, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed has said that all ongoing projects in the state are driven by tax payers' money.

Governor Ahmed, who disclosed this on Thursday in Ilorin when he received members of the Voice of Change Initiative, VCI, led by its President, Chief Clement Nwaneze, explained that the monthly federal allocations were being used to pay salaries and did not create room for execution of developmental projects.

He noted that the ingenuity of his government had shored up the internally generated revenues by three hundred percent and "it is being judiciously utilised to finance capital projects across the state. We have changed the people, process and technology in our revenue collection process to ensure efficiency."

Governor Ahmed who identified corruption as an impediment to economic growth and development said fighting corruption must not be left for President Muhammadu Buhari alone.

Stressing the need for partnership with federal agencies in ensuring institutional framework necessary to drive anti-corruption campaign in Nigeria, the Governor explained that fighting corruption requires a sense of urgency from all stakeholders if Nigeria must attain the desirable level of economic growth and development.

Dr Ahmed commended members of the group for promoting the fight against corruption and charged them to use their entertainment platform to advocate paradigm shift in the society.

Speaking earlier, the President, VCI, Chief Clement Nwaneze had disclosed that the group comprises actors, musicians, students and market women who came together to support President Muhammadu Buhari's fight against corruption.

Chief Nwaneze maintained that corruption is a major problem in Nigeria which had affected every sector and sought the support of the Governor in the group's activities in the North Central zone.
