Is 'Operation No Pothole' still functional in Kwara?
On the 29th of May, 2011, when Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed of Kwara State assumed office as the elected Governor of Kwara State, one of the programmes of his administration launched is 'Operation No Pothole' designed basically to ensure that all roads are motorable and free from potholes.
In view of this, the State Government through the Kwara State Road Maintenance Agency (KWARMA) has been working tirelessly to ensure that our roads are free from potholes.
However, investigation by our reporter shows that most of the potholes filled by the Agency re-opened few weeks later, while some of those rehabilitated also got damaged.
Despite the 'Operation No Pothole' programme of the State Government, potholes have besieged some of our roads in Ilorin metropolis, the state capital, begging for serious attention from the authority concerned.
Areas like Agbo Oba, College of Education, University of Ilorin mini campus and Adewole roads, Tanke, Stadium and Sawmill roads were among the affected areas with dangerous potholes. These potholes pose serious problems and make our roads dangerous for road users to ply.
Some of those spoken to asked the state government if the 'Operation No Pothole' is still in existence and appeal to the government to do something urgent to address the situation.
They also demanded an explanation from the Kwara State Road Maintenance Agency (KWARMA) on why the rehabilitated roads do not last long.
