FG cautioned not to politicise census

Date: 2017-05-01

The Federal Government has been cautioned against politicising the conduct of census in Nigeria. The warning was given by a Demographer and Statistician, Mrs Ojuawo Moronmubo Oyebola, in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital yesterday.

Mrs Oyebola, who is the Vice President of the KWARA Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, (KWACCIMA), said it was unfortunate that census conducted in the past failed to produce the real figure of the nation's population accurately either due to poor planning or deliberate strategy by some people to manipulate the exercise. The demographer, who said census was key to everything that revolves round a country, challenged the government and the National Population Commission to rise up to the task by conducting an acceptable, credible and unbiased census during the forthcoming exercise.
