Kwara Assembly Orders Demolition Of 6 Petrol Stations

Date: 2016-06-16

The Kwara State House of Assembly yesterday directed the state's Town Planning and Development Authority to demolish six petrol stations within Ilorin, the state capital.

The affected petrol stations were among the 29 filling stations allegedly built without due clearance from the appropriate authorities.

The House's marching order followed the alleged negligence of the concerned petrol stations by their owners. This was contained in the report of the Ad-hoc committee recently set up by the House on proliferation of filling stations in the state.

The House urged the state governor, Alh Abdulfatah Ahmed to produce development plans such as master and regional plan for all the urban settlement in the state. It also asked the state government to strengthen the town planning and development authority to enable it perform its functions effectively.

It called for the setting up of a task force to implement the House's resolutions while weekly reports on compliance be made to the House through the ad-hoc committee's chairman. The House said that the exercise would be a continuous one until sanity is restored in the system.
