KWHA warns against allocation of lands in water ways
The Kwara State House of Assembly has called on the state Housing Corporation to henceforth stop the allocation of water way land to the people to safe guard life and property.
The House made the call while considering a report of the House Committee on Land, Housing and Urban Development on a petition titled 'save our soul' written by one Mallam Jimoh Alabi of Irewolede Housing Estate, Ilorin read by the Chairman of the Committee, Mallam Adamu Usman of Okuta-Yashikira Constituency.
The House equally warned the Town Planning Development Authority to also stop the approval of building on water ways. It stated that the House of one Alhaji Kamaru and others built on water ways within Irewolede estate be removed while the housing corporation should be reprimanded by the state government to forestall future occurrence.
The House stated that all the lands sold to the public on water ways within Irewolede Estate be revoked while the housing corporation should make refund appropriately. It directed the housing corporation to as a matter of urgency upgrade Isale Ajanaku road and open Igbaja road within Irewolede Estate with a befitting drainage system as captured in this year's budget, directing the corporation to report the actions taken within the next one month.
Speaking after the contributions of members on the petition, the Deputy Speaker, Hon Mathew Okedare who presided over yesterday's plenary, commended members for their contributions towards making life bearable for the people of the state, especially the innocent ones. He condemned the action of the ministry concerned in allocating unsuitable land to the people which in turn caused untold hardship to them.
In another development, the House has called on the state government to sensitize passers-by and communities along rail lines on the dangers in crossing rail lines without consideration of all the rail signs.
The House made the call while considering a motion on preventing avoidable accident on railway lines, sponsored by Hon Ahmed Ibn Mohammed of Kaiama-Kemanji-Wajibe, Hon Hassan Oyeleke of Essa-Shawo-IgboIdun, Barrister Kamaldeen Fagbemi, Oke-Ogun and Hon Aishat Ibrahim of Ilorin East Constituency.
The legislators implored the Nigerian Railway Corporation to urgently reintroduce barrier and signs along the necessary points to safe innocent souls from unwanted deaths. The House however called on the railway corporation to revoke all shops and stores built along rail line junction that blocked the view of road users for easy passage.
Members who contributed to the debate, reminded the people that the government was trying to revive the rail system to ease transportation system and to curb accidents.
