Kwara Government to revive Ambulance points
The Kwara State Government is to revive Ambulance points in major highways across the state to assist accident victims during emergency.
Similarly, the government is to take delivery of an Asphalt plant within ninety days to hasten repairs, management and construction of roads in the state.
The State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed said these on Friday when he received the Zonal Commanding Officer Zone eight, of the Federal Road Safety Commission comprising Kwara, Kogi and Ekiti State, Mr. John Meheux at the Government House, Ilorin.
Governor Ahmed who supported the introduction of speed limit by the FRSC said accident could be managed when speed is not high.
He gave the assurnce that his government would continue to link up rural roads to urban areas with a view to reducing accident rate and facilitate economic growth of the state.
Governor Ahmed who described the FRSC as a strong institution for sustained level of productivity and economic life, promised continuous support to the Commission in order to achieve its mandate.
Road Crashes
While responding, Mr. John Meheux said 200 Road Traffic Crashes were recorded last year in Kwara State, involving 339 vehicles. Mr. Meheux explained that apart from 1321 people who were in the crashes, 628 persons sustained various degree of injuries while one hundred and thirty-four death recorded.
The Zonal Commander who expressed worry over the incidence further attributed the crashes to over-speeding, loss of control and overloading related offences.
Mr. Meheux said Ilorin- Omupo and Ilorin-Jebba-Mokwa routes were becoming source of worry to the Commission, saying that most accidents occurred on these routes.
He therefore, appealed to the state governor to support the FRSC course in the introduction of speed limit devises, as it would go a long way in reducing crashes and fatalities on roads.
Mr. Meheux added that the Commission had initiated safe route to school to assist some pupils and students of selected schools within Ilorin metropolis on the usage of road.
