Fake BVN: Kwara probes over 100 civil servants
Security agents in Kwara State are investigating about 100 civil servants who allegedly presented fake BVN during the ongoing staff audit being handled by a committee.
Besides, 10 other civil servants, who allegedly presented fake credentials, have also been apprehended during the audit exercise being conducted at Ilorin West Local Government Area of the state.
These were part of disclosures by Dr. Muideen Akorede, Senior Special Assistant (Media) to Governor AbdulFattah Ahmed during a ministerial press briefing anchored by the state's ministry of Information and Communications.
Akorede said the audit committee was to present an initial report of its findings on the workforce in the state's Water Corporation and media houses Tuesday in order to ensure prompt payment of outstanding salaries in the corporations to ensure workers who are currently on strike resume work and help restore the water supply situation in the state.
He said government expects that the ongoing verification of staff would eventually lead to about 40 percent reduction in the state wage bill, pointing out that some states have done it successfully and are now reaping the benefits.
