ICPC To Go After 23, 000 Ghost Workers

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has said that it has concluded arrangement to go after over 23,000 ghost workers, who have been collecting salaries from government purse without doing any job.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of an anti-corruption training for state legislators from Oyo, Kwara and Lagos states at the headquarters of the ICPC in Abuja, the chairman of the commission, Mr Ekpo Nta said with their bio-data and the Bank Verification Number (BVN), the ICPC will trace the individuals one after the other and bring them to book.

The ICPC boss also urged south west assemblies to be good ambassadors of anti-corruption campaign in their states in order to ensure a corrupt free society.

Reps To FG: Replace 23,000 Ghost Workers With Unemployed Youths

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives has urged the Federal Government to replace the 23,000 ghost workers with unemployed youths.

This came under matter of urgent public importance by Hon Dickson Tarkighir (Benue -APC), which was adopted by members through a voice vote.

Tarkighir explained that since the government system had demonstrated the financial capacity to withstand the pressure of catering for 23,000 plus none existing workers, it should be able to engage 23,000 unemployed youths.

Bad Leaders, Foreign Aid Impoverishing Africa - Dogara

The Speaker of the House, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, has stated that poor leadership and the foreign aid syndrome are responsible for the underdevelopment of the African continent.

Dogara, who said this yesterday when he received the Sudanese Ambassador to Nigeria, Ibrahim Busha in his office, said that African leaders have left the continent underdeveloped as a result of their reliance on foreign aids from the Western world.
