Unpaid salaries: Teachers in Kwara seek divine intervention

The Nigeria Union of Teachers in Kwara State has embarked on a three-day prayer in Mosques and Churches for divine intervention over unpaid salaries of teachers in Irepodun Local Government Area./p>

The state Chairman of the NUT, Gabriel Opatola, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Omu-Aran on Thursday. Opatola said the prayers were meant to ask for God's intervention in their plight./p>

The chairman said primary and junior secondary school teachers in the area had not been paid for three months./p>

He said members of the union had been on a sit-at-home strike over the issue. Opatola said the prayers would be continuous as part of the group's strategy to effect better welfare packages for teachers in the New Year./p>

He said: "We believe that nothing is impossible with God." "The essence is to attract God's kindness and mercy as regards our welfare, promotion and other incentives as we enter the New Year."/p>

Opatola said the union would continue to do everything within its capacity to impact positively on teachers and the society./p>

He urged the teachers to be law abiding in their agitation for improved welfare. "It is our unflinching quest to ensure we discharge both our statutory and civic responsibilities without qualms," he said.
