KWHA Wants Govt Agencies & Institutions to be Self-sustaining

Date: 2015-12-09

The Kwara State Government has been urged to come up with comprehensive policy that will make government's Agencies, Corporation, Parastatals and Institutions self sustaining to further enhance their viability.

This is part of resolutions reached by the legislature following a Matter of Urgent Public Importance raised by a Member representing Edu Constituency Alhaji Ishiaku Adams on non availability of water supply due to the strike embarked upon by staffers of the State Water Corporation.

The Speaker Dr. Ali Ahmad while reading the resolutions of the House on the motion explained that the need became necessary in view of the inability of the State owned corporations, parastatals and institutions to meet up with the monthly salary of their workforce.

Dr. Ali said the current dwindling of the country's resources no doubt considered it expedient for agencies of government to look inward and block all loopholes with a view to making them viable and responsive to contemporary challenges.

The House according to him then directed the State Commissioner for Water Resources and the Management of the State owned Water Corporation and other stakeholders to appear before its committee on Agriculture, Natural and Water Resources with a view to finding amicable and enduring solution and report to the House within 7days.
