KWSG commends Ilorin Lion's Club on advocacy campaign...as immunization begins
The members of Ilorin Lion's club have been commended for their initiative in complimenting the state government's efforts in the campaign and sensitization programme towards eradicating the deadly scourge of measles out of our society.
The Executive Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed represented by the Secretary to the Kwara State government Alhaji Sola Isiaka Gold, made the commendation when he received the members of the Ilorin Lions Club who were on an advocacy visit to his office.
According to Governor Abdulfatah, measles disease still remained a big problem facing the health sector as thousands of children and youths still die annually as a result of measles.
The governor further explained that the state government had already joined other parts of the world to flag off this year's campaign and sensitization programme against the fight and eradication of the dangerous disease.
He also told the people that vaccination and immunization of the children against measles commenced across the state yesterday and used the occasion to appeal to parents to bring out their children for immunization against the deadly disease.
Governor Abdulfatah thanked and appreciated the members of Ilorin Lions Club for always taking interest in the development and survival of the children in the state adding that children needed to be cared for as leaders of tomorrow.
Responding, the leader of the team, a former Provost College of Health Sciences Ladoke Akintola University Ogbomosho and now a visiting Professor, College of Health Sciences University of I1orin, Lion, Professor Abdulfatah Ayoade Adesokan said the visit was purely an advocacy one aimed at sensitizing the public particularly the nursing mothers to bring out their children for immunization against measles and other communicable diseases across the state.
Professor Adesokan however promised that Ilorin Lion's Club will continue to partner with the state government in ensuring that the state government completely wipes out the issue of measles, polio and other communicable diseases among children in the state.
He therefore used the platform to also congratulate the SSG on his second term appointment saying that he really deserved the second term based on his performance during the first tenure of the government.
He also said that the advocacy campaign took their organization to some major streets of Ilorin Metropolis in order to create awareness among the people.
The occasion was witnessed by the Head of Service Hajia Zahra Omar and some commissioners, permanent secretaries and other members of the club.
