Ministerial screening: Saraki, Lai Mohammed mend fences
AHEAD of commencement of screening of Ministerial nominees by senators tomorrow, strong indications have emerged that the nominees and some senators have begun the process of fence mending, just as the Ministerial nominees were said to have intensified serious lobbying to get the law makers to their side.
A source told Vanguard yesterday that some of the nominees and the senators who were not going along before now, following political differences have now decided to put the past behind them, and put the interest of the state and the country above personal interests.
One of such meetings, Vanguard gathered, was the meeting between Senate President, Bukola Saraki who hails from Kwara State, and the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who is also from Kwara State.
It was gathered that after the meeting, Senate President Saraki has now decided to endorse the nomination of Lai Mohammed, who had been nominated to represent Kwara State on the Federal Executive Council(FEC).
According to the source, Senator Saraki was initially against the nomination of Lai Mohammed as the nominee from Kwara State, but Saraki was said to have told the nominee and those who brought him that he would only support the nomination if Mohammed agreed to take some steps.
The meeting between Saraki and Mohammed was facilitated by the Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.
According to a source, one of the steps was the request that he visits the Emir of Ilorin and seek his blessing, while he was also requested to visit some elders in Kwara South Senatorial District and that he (Mohammed) should get back to him on the outcome of those meetings.
Lai Mohammed was said to have fulfilled the conditions spelt out by Saraki by embarking on the said journey on Saturday.
