Kwara Lawmakers Suspend Petrol Station Permits

Date: 2015-08-23

The Kwara State House of Assembly on Wednesday ordered the suspension of permits for new petrol stations in the state capital.

This is part of the resolutions reached by the House following a motion on proliferation of petrol stations in Ilorin raised by the member representing Ilorin North West Constituency, Abdul-Rafiu Abdul-Rahman.

Reading the resolutions, the speaker, Dr. Ali Ahmad, noted that indiscriminate construction of petrol stations could cause security, health and environmental hazards if not checked.

The House enjoined the state government to liaise with the Department of Petroleum Resources on the need to strictly adhere to regulations on location of petrol stations.

They also directed the state's Town Planning Authority, the DPR and all relevant agencies and stakeholders to brief the House on the issue and constituted a five-man committee to investigate and report to it within two weeks.
