Rangers overpower Kwara Utd in Cup clash

Date: 2015-07-24

Enugu Rangers and Kwara United played out a fantastic Federation Cup round of 16 contest on Thursday in Abuja.

Rangers won 3-2 with Emeka Eze netting the winner, four minutes from time.

The Flying Antelopes began the stronger of the two sides and took the lead 11 minutes in through Rasaq Adegbite.

Evans Iyoro equalized for the Harmony Warriors in the 26th minute but Bobby Clement's fine finish a minute after the break saw the Enugu-based side take the lead for the second time in the game.

It was an encounter that ebbed and flowed with attacking football taking the front seat.

Keeping in the spirit of the game, United equalized for the second time on the day through Adeshina Gata in the 71st minute.

Rangers were to have the last laugh though with Eze popping up with the game's decisive goal at the death.

Rangers head coach, Imama Amapakabo was a relieved man after the contest and voiced his sentiments in a post-game chat with supersport.com.

"First, I want to thank God for the win. I however think we would have closed out the win earlier if we had converted the numerous chances that came our way earlier in the game," he said.

Rangers, now the overwhelming favourites for the title, will now face El-Kanemi Warriors in the quarterfinals on August 12.
