APC National Leaders May Storm Ilorin to Receive Gbemi Saraki

Date: 2015-04-01

Barring any last minute change, the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led by the national chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie Oyegun, may storm Ilorin, Kwara State capital this week  to receive the former senator and a former chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), Senator Gbemisola Rukayyah Saraki into the APC.

Already, all her supporters and associates in the PDP have dumped the PDP for the APC, while the woman leader of the PDP in the state who also happens to be one of the  Senator Gbemisola Saraki,’ s close associates, Hon. Nimota Suleiman, has resigned her position as the woman leader of the PDP in the state..

Gbemisola on her return to Ilorin last Friday before the just concluded presidential and national assembly elections reportedly  told all her supporters at her country home located Ilofa  GRA, Ilorin,  that, ‘Tomorrow (Saturday) is our national environmental exercise and I would like you to come out en masse and bring out your brooms and clean all your wards, communities and every place during the period in order to bring effective change to the polity.”

Following her directive, it was gathered, her supporters were said to have come out during the last Saturday general election to cast their votes for the APC across the 16 local government councils of the state.

The defection of Gbemisola from PDP to APC might not be unconnected with the alleged maltreatment meted out on her by her former party, PDP, in the state which hitherto had caused a lot of hues and cries in the PDP in the state.

THISDAY investigations revealed that, both the state and national leadership of the PDP tried as much as possible to appeal to her not to leave but the appeal could not yield any positive results.

However, sources close to the former senator who sought anonymity confirmed to our correspondent in Ilorin on Sunday that, the national leadership of the APC may storm Ilorin, the state capital, this week to receive her into the APC fold.

Sources said the national leadership of  theAPC was said to have been happy for the new catch of  Gbemisola an view of her political influence in Kwara that will be supported by that of his brother, Senator Bukola Saraki so as to move the APC forward in the state.

Meanwhile, the women leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kwara state, Hon. Nimota Suleiman has resigned her appointment.
Suleiman, a close associate of Senator Gbemisola Saraki  and former lawmaker representing Ilorin South/Ilorin East federal constituency at the national assembly between 2007-2011 has tendered her letter of resignation to PDP chairman in the state, Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo.

According to the letter which was obtained by journalists yesterday: “I hereby announce my resignation as the Women Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State.

“This resignation is sequel to the defection of my leader, Sen. Gbemisola Rukayah Saraki, from the PDP in Kwara State to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Since Sen. Gbemi Saraki instructed her supporters to vote massively for the APC in the state, I have come to the realisation that my membership of the PDP has become untenable.

“Therefore, in fidelity to her ideology and in solidarity with her political leadership, I Hon. Nimota Suleiman, thisday, cease to be the state Women Leader and member of the PDP in Kwara State.”
