Kwara communities hail Ajibola over amenities

Date: 2015-02-26

Communities in Kwara State have commended the PDP governorship candidate in the state, Senator Simeon Ajibola, for providing their areas with electricity and water.

The commendation came from residents of Gaa Oke, Idi Emi and Ogidi areas of Ilorin West Local Government Area where the senator donated transformers and provided tankers to distribute drinkable water.

Speaking with Community News on Tuesday, Mallam Shehu Majeed from Gaa Oke, Idi Emi said the area was in darkness for close to nine months before Senator Ajibola gave them a transformer to replace the faulty one.

Also, Mr Peter Joshua, an electronics dealer, said that Ogidi area stopped enjoying electricity since January last year.

According to him, all entreaties to the state government to come to their rescue fell on deaf ears as the government refused to do anything.

Joshua added that he could not believe it when he got home last week and met light in the area.

He said with this singular gesture, the whole of Ogidi area would remain grateful to Senator Ajibola.

Joshua also said that the governorship candidate has been distributing water to his area with water tankers since January this year.

Another resident of Olonlade area, Mrs Folasade Falade, told Community News that the area was suffering from lack of potable water until Senator Ajibola started giving them water.

She said her children used to trek long distances to get water for her house chores and at times she bought water from vendors.

Falade expressed her gratitude to the senator for bringing succour to her life and that of her children and neighbours.

Another resident, Mrs Fausat Adediran, thanked the senator for the free water supply, adding that it had removed the hardship of looking for water especially during dry season.

She said that her younger sister was nearly raped where she had gone to fetch water, but for the intervention of the people who rescued her.

Mrs Adediran said the people of the area would remain grateful to the senator, adding that the APC-led government has not done anything to ameliorate their sufferings.

The Director of Administration and Logistics, Ajibola Campaign Orgainsation, Prince Shuaib Olanrewaju, told Community News that Senator Ajibola's gesture was informed by his passion to touch the lives of the people.

According to Olanrewaju, Ajibola's philanthropic gesture has nothing do with his governorship ambition as he has been touching the lives of the people in the state for over a decade.

He said Senator Ajibola single handedly attracted the installation of MTN telecommunication masts in five communities across Kwara State.

These communities according to him, include Igbonna in Oyun Local Government Area, Koro and Isapa in Ekiti Local Government Area, Idofin-Igbana in Oke-Ero Local Government Area, Oke Iya-Ipo in Irepodun Local Government Area.

Olanrewaju also said that the governorship candidate has been assisting community development projects in many towns and villages in the state.
