Kwara Assembly Suspends Budget Report As Member Dies
The sad development forced the state lawmakers to suspend considerations for the final passage of the 2015 budget.
The deceased was expected to present the report of his committee to the House on Wednesday having been unable to do so on Tuesday due to a brief illness.
The news of Sunaboro’s death threw the entire assembly complex into shock.
The information was brought to the notice of the lawmakers while the Speaker of the Assembly, Barr. Razak Atunwa was on his way to the floor of the House.
A visibly disturbed Atunwa immediately conveyed a meeting of members inside the Speaker’s lounge before the lawmakers formally took their seats.
Some female legislators as well as workers in the complex were seen shedding tears as the news broke out.
Addressing the plenary, the Speaker described late Sunaboro as a committed member, who exhibited diligence in his duties and never compromised on his integrity.
He recalled that the deceased supervised the budget sector of the legislators duties admirably and was never late in submitting his reports
He described the contribution of the late Chairman to the progress of the House as immense especially in the passage of the annual budget of the state and later led members to observe a minute silence in honour of their late colleague.
The Speaker immediately ordered the suspension of the continuation of the presentation of report of 2015 budget which commenced on Tuesday to enable members take part in the burial programme for the deceased. The House later adjourned plenary till Tuesday, 24 February in honour of the late Member.
Sunaboro was a two-term legislator and represented llesha-Gwannara constituency in Baruten local government area of the state until his demise.
