Patigi community in the northern part of Kwara State has called on the federal government to construct a bridge across River Niger to link the area with Bida in Niger State.

The bridge, it said, is strategic to the socio-economic development of the area, which is known for fish production.

President of Patigi Emirate Development Union, Alhaji Shaaba Idrisu, noted that the bridge, when constructed would not only boost economic activities in Kwara and Niger, but Nigeria as a whole.

The president also called on the government to upgrade Government Technical College, Patigi, to either a university or federal polytechnic in order to produce qualified human capital in engineering.

Speaking earlier, the Etsu Patigi, Alhaji Ibrahim Chatta Umar, had urged members of the community to shun activities considered inimical to its development.
