National Health Bill will address sector challenges - Ayinla
The National Health Bill signed into law by President Goodluck Jonathan, Monday, would address the challenges in the health sector if well implemented, Kwara State Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Dr. Abubakar Ayinla has said.
Speaking with Daily Trust in Ilorin, yesterday, Ayinla described the passage of the bill as a welcome development in the health sector.
He urged the federal government to implement provisions of the bill and make funds available where necessary, adding that effective implementation of the bill would end unnecessary trips abroad for medical treatment.
He warned that failure to implement the provisions of the bill might jeopardise its good intention.
"It should be implemented appropriately, funds should be made available to the necessary quarters to be able to do their work effectively", he said, noting that the bill would reduce the frequent conflict among health workers as every member of the medical team, including doctors, nurses and pharmacists among others, would be appropriately placed.
He said leadership was a key factor in the health sector, advising that government should be interested in putting 'round pegs in round holes'.
