Conduct fresh primary next Monday in Kwara - PDP Elders
Last Monday's primary election was marred by protests from members who complained of alleged planned imposition of Mr. Dele Belgore, who was said to have smuggled fake delegates that were neither on the list nor accredited, into the voting venue, leading to wild physical combats by the protesting members.
Speaking at a press conference, deputy chairman of PEF, Alhaji Ayinla Folorunsho, said the elders were grossly unhappy with the turn of events in the party, particularly the unfortunate development on the day in question.
Expressing shock that the same list that was used to conduct the House of Assembly, House of Representatives and Senate primaries respectively could suddenly be doctored to reflect different names, thus sparking off wild row on Monday, PEF attributed the sad occurrence to "administrative lapses, particularly the multiplicity of venues for accreditation and voting which caused the delay of accreditation of delegates till late in the evening."
The elders said: "This development provoked tension and suspicion among the delegates, aspirants and members of the state executive committee, which handled the arrangements, thereby generating serious security challenges that caused the gubernatorial primaries to be called off."
They therefore called for a fresh primary election to be fixed for Monday, December 15 in Ilorin, advocating that both accreditation and voting are done in only one location.
They also specifically warned the party national leadership in Abuja not to attempt imposing any candidate on the party in the state as the repercussion of such would not only threaten the prospect of the party in the state, but could also cause unwarranted tension among members.
