Flood - Omu-Aran Community Counts Losses

Residents of Omu-Aran community in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara are counting their losses following a heavy rainfall which destroyed goods and property worth millions of naira.

News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that the rain, which started on Wednesday night and stopped in the early hours of Thursday, led to flooding, which ravaged the area.

No fewer than 12 shops and 20 houses were seriously affected by the flood around Omoniyepe area, along Omu-Aran-Ilofa Road, in the community.

Items lost to the flood include electronic appliances, handsets, clothes and upholsteries.

The residents of the affected area were seen making frantic efforts to salvage some of their property destroyed by the flood as early as 6:30 a.m. on Thursday.

Some of the residents who spoke with NAN said that they were forced to abandon their houses when the flood started.
