A former council chairman of Irepodun LGA of Kwara State, Alhaji Kareem Adewumi, yesterday slumped and died.

Adewumi, 55-year-old, reportedly slumped in his Omu Aran residence along the Ilofa-Omu-Aran highway.

Daily Trust gathered that he was rushed to the Omu Aran General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A relation, Mr. Dayo Adewunmi, described the death as shocking because he appeared heathy before the slump.

"We were together from morning and he even drove his wife to the shop. What we only noticed was that he was struggling to breathe and later he slumped and we immediately rushed him to hospital where he was pronounced dead," he said.

The former council chairman who was buried yesterday according to Islamic rites is survived by a wife, Yemi Adewumi and children.

The incumbent council chairman of the local government, Alhaji Luqman Owolewa and the traditional ruler of Omu Aran, Oba Oba Charles Ibitoye, described the death as a loss to the community. Late Adewumi who hailed from Ile-Ire in Omu-Aran was the council chairman between 2003 and 2006.
