Wikki rue defeat at Kwara Utd
Wikki Tourists coach Ahmed Abdul-Pele has described his side's -4 defeat at Kwara United in Saturday's Nigeria National League (NNL) Division A match-day 25 top-of-the-table clash at the Kwara State Stadium in llorin as the "worst of the season".
The Afonja Warriors' massive win has narrowed the gap at the summit between the sides to one as the llorin-based side upped their points haul to 43 against leaders Wikki Tourists on 44.
Abdul-Pele said his wards' momentary loss of concentration caused them their heaviest defeat in the season.
"This is our heaviest defeat so far in the season, we never bargained for the result as we're looking forward to pull off a draw to maintain the four-point gap at the top.
"I blame the players for the defeat, I think they momentarily lost concentration, allowing the hosts an opportunity to hit them hard.
"We gave a good account of ourselves, but the massive defeat has made nonsense of our efforts in the game.
"We've decided to remain focused on our promotion race, which will surely become a reality no matter how tough our challengers strive.
"Nobody will upstage us from the summit, they can only try but won't succeed as our promotion ticket to the Premier League is already ordained," said Abdul-Pele to supersport.com.
Abdul-Pele said Sokoto United will pay for his side's worst defeat at Kwara United next weekend at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi.
"We'll revenge the defeat at Kwara United when we host Sokoto United in Bauchi next weekend.
"We're certain not only going to win the three points that will further widen the gap at the top but with a wide goal margin too," said Abdul-Pele.
The defeat at Kwara United leaves Wikki Tourists on 44 points from a possible 75 in the 25-week old Nigeria second tier.
