Bursary: 6,000 Kwara Poly students benefit
No fewer than 6,000 students of the Kwara origin at the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, had so far benefited from the ongoing bursary disbursement at the institution.
According to the Chairman of the state Scholarship Board, Hon. Isiaka Mogaji, who spoke with newsmen during the disbursement exercise at the permanent site expressed satisfaction over the conduct of the students.
Said he:"We are really impressed with the turn out of students and their level of understanding so far, most especially, the cooperation the board received from Students Affairs Unit, security operatives and the management of the institution".
Mogagi said, the strategies adopted by the board gave it a lot of advantages in carrying out its duties in ensuring hitch-free disbursement.
"When the payment fully started, the students trooped out en-masse for the exercise, which made the situation some how difficult to manage but now we have doused the tension and the situation is under controlled now.
"Initially when we commenced, we started with the release of 2,000 names just to speed up the exercise because we are going to 6,000, after two days the crowd reduced then we pasted another 4,000 to make it 6,000.
He further allayed the fear of the students that every one of them would benefit from the bursary award, urging them not to be panic.
He reiterated that the present administration, under the leadership of Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed is poised to ensure the students' welfare and sustenance of cordial relationship between them (students) and his administration in the state.
Meanwhile, Mogaji had earlier assured students who are yet to collect to remain calm as he promised that the exercise will continue until all eligible students got their money.
Some of the students who spoke with newsmen after collection of their money, Sheu Lukman, Sanni Titilayo both of the Business Administration Department ( ND II) and Otunola Joseph of the Department of Science Laboratory Technology, commended the Kwara State Government for the bursary award.
While wishing Governor Abulfatah Ahmed a successful tenure of office, the students urged the governor to continue with the exercise because bursary payment to students made a great impact in the lives of students.
