Governor Ahmed urges contractors on speedy completion of projects
Alhaji Ahmed gave the advice in Ilorin in an interview with newsmen while inspecting some on-going projects executed by the State Government within the metropolis.
The Governor, who recognized resource constraints for some of the contractors, noted that "being a contractor necessarily implies that you have the capacity to engage in this kind of business and you should enjoy what I refer to as spontaneous financing".
"If you have a good relationship with that kind of spontaneous financing, you should be able to carry this job to almost completion level when you jump started", Ahmed said.
Projects inspected included the Judge’s Quarters, Taoheed Secondary School road, Akerebiata road, Stadium Complex, Advance Medical Diagnostic Centre, Metropolitan Square and the Asa Dam-Garage Offa road, all in Ilorin the State capital.
Governor Ahmed, who expressed satisfaction with the level of work in some of the on-going projects, however, said we could be much happier in some of them.
His words: "We are quite satisfied with activities going on in the Judge’s Quarters, the Akerebiata road is a little bit slow for the kind of expectations that we have and of course, the Diagnostic Centre is also a little bit sort of my expectations,
"I am quite satisfied with the Stadium Complex. The Metropolitan Square, generally we are happy with the work that has been completed so far but what is left to be completed is taking longer than necessary".
The governor thereafter directed that work at the Judge’s Quarters and the two bridges along Akerebiata-Sango road be completed within six weeks and two months respectively.
While commending the great transformation witnessed at the Stadium Complex, he promised to work on the indoor sports hall, provide a training pitch and revive sporting activities at the Secondary Schools level to further enhance sports development in the State.
Alhaji Ahmed, who directed the Governor’s Office to furnish him with the status report on the contractor and the outstanding work at the Metropolitan Square within the next 24 hours, also assured of proper funding of projects within the State Government’s cash flow framework.
He promised to ensure the completion of all on-going projects, pointing out that "getting to abandon them would not only amount to wastage but also denying the people access to enjoying the facilities that were supposed to be created".
