Police kill 3 suspected robbers, parade fake doctor

Date: 2014-06-19

The Kwara State Police Command yesterday said it killed three suspected armed robbers during a gun battle.

The state's Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ambrose Aisabo, while parading some suspects yesterday, said one of the suspected robbers escaped unhurt.

Three other suspected robbers who were members of a five-man gang, during an operation at Tanke area, engaged the police in gunfire, but they were overpowered and eventually gunned down.

The commissioner who paraded three other suspects for being in possession of fake currencies, said the suspects were arrested on Monday at 9:40 pm by the command's special patrol team along Old Jebba road.

He said the police team intercepted the suspected criminals in a Toyota Starlet commercial vehicle and that fake currencies packed in a black sack were recovered during a search.

Also paraded yesterday was a fake medical doctor, Adams John Aye, who was accused of criminal trespass and impersonation.

The suspect who is a rusticated medical student of University of Maiduguri, according to the commissioner, has been on the wanted list of the command for multiple medical offences. He said Aye was arrested at the Civil Service Clinic, Ilorin, while parading himself as a medical doctor and canvassing for patronage. He added that the suspect was arrested with a stethoscope, needles, syringes, bottles of chloroquine injection, cotton wool and assorted medical text books. On interrogation, the suspect, who confessed going to the clinic with the stethoscope, denied impersonating as a medical doctor. He said he only wanted to flaunt the medical equipment.
