Two Remanded For Kidnapping Govt Officials

Two persons, Isiaka Ahmed, 25 of Ajibesin Ogidi, Ilorin and Alh. Shehu Olorunlanbe, 68 of No. 33, Banni Street, Elesin Alore, Ilorin, have been remanded in prisons custody for allegedly kidnapping three government officials.

The government officials were said to have been kidnapped by the accused when they were carrying out their lawful assignment.

The accused were arraigned before an Ilorin magistrate court on a six-count charge of criminal conspiracy, criminal trespass, obstruction of civil servants in the course of discharging lawful duty, kidnapping, inciting disturbance and attempted culpable homicide.

They were indicted following a petition from the state ministry of Justice, Ilorin, to the commissioner of police, Kwara state that on May 12, 2014 the accused attempted to kill some staff of the office of Surveyor General, Kwara state.

According to the petition, the office of surveyor General had sent a team of surveyors to Madi-Ogundele road, behind the Federal Low Cost, Oloje area, Ilorin, in accordance with the request from the Kwara state Bureau of land, Ilorin that survey should be carried out at a layout land acquired by the state government.

The petition stated further that the accused and others now at large criminally conspired and trespassed into the said land with dangerous weapons and obstructed the team from carrying out its official duty.

The petition added that the accused kidnapped three of the surveyors and matcheted the team leader to a point of death.

The police prosecutor, Mr. Abegunde Elijah objected to the bail of the accused and urged the court to remand them in prison custody pending the outcome of investigation.

Magistrate A.I. Dasuki ordered that the accused should be remanded at the federal prison, Oke-Kura, Ilorin and adjourned the case till June 2, 2014 for further mention.
