ABS Threatens to Withdraw Players Over N30 Million Debts

Date: 2014-05-01

Nigeria National League, NNL, campaigners, Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) Football Club of Ilorin has issued a notice of withdrawal of its players from debtor clubs owing to non payment of transfer fees for the affected players.

The club has hinted that NPFL and NNL clubs that swooped on the Ilorin outfit for players following its relegation last season are owing over N30m in transfer fees for the players already released to them. The club has therefore appealed to the League Management Company (LMC) and the Nigeria National League (NNL) to immediately stop the players from playing for their present clubs until their transfer fees are paid.

A statement issued by the club yesterday in Ilorin and signed by the club's Administrative Secretary, Funmilayo Owolabi said the withdrawal of the players became necessary in view of the inability of the affected club to abide by the transfer agreement entered into with ABS before the players were released. The statement further mentioned some of the players and the affected clubs to include Abdulrahman Bashir and Zenke Thomas (Enyimba), Stone Evbounwan (Dolphin) and Ichull Lordson (Warri Wolves) amongst others.
