Ahmed denies lobbying to return to PDP
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State at the weekend said it had uncovered moves by its former members who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to return to the party.
The party in a statement by its chairman, publicity committee, Mohammed Al-Hassan said, "Information reaching us indicates that the topmost leadership of the dissidents have been begging and prostrating in Abuja to return to our fold despite their flamboyant exit as if they have the capacity to stay without the cover of the centre".
Former PDP secretary, Prince Yemi Afolayan in a statement on behalf of Senator Saraki however dismissed the report, saying, "Insinuations that we are pleading to come back to the PDP can only exist in the infantile imagination of those behind the rumour".
Saraki added, "I want to assure my people across the length and breath of Kwara State that we have decided together to move with the tide of time; we are in a secured position where we are now and the changes in the leadership of PDP are not enough to make us change that decision.
"Those who are peddling rumour about our change of course are only doing that because they are afraid of their looming failure in the coming weeks when their paymaster would have realised how impotent they are in the political calculations of Kwara." Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, his predecessor, Senator Bukola Saraki and their supporters had in November, last year joined the APC.
The PDP however noted that while it refused "to frown at their desperate moves because in politics the more we are in number the merrier", the new members would be coming back as freshers.
"However, we consider their insinuations that the national leadership of our great party is interested in their return as not only laughable but also a poor attempt to perpetrate falsehood and gain cheap relevance", the statement added.
