Court Remands 5 Over Ilorin Violence

Date: 2014-01-16

An Ilorin Magistrates' Court on Thursday remanded five men for alleged disturbance of  public peace.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Abideen Oderinde, said  the accused were arrested for allegedly being  involved in the  violence that led to the killing of four persons on Jan. 9  in Ilorin.

He gave the names of the accused as  Bolaji Raheem, Suleiman Adebayo, Saheed  Kadri, Bwambo Johnson and Oladimeji Saheed.

The prosecutor  said six cutlasses, a sword, spear, gallon of petrol,  matches, an  unregistered Jetta Volkswagen car as well as charms and amulets were recovered from the accused.

The prosecutor said that the accused also destroyed cars,  houses  and other properties valued at N20 million.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

The prosecutor urged the court to remand the accused pending the conclusion of  police  investigation.

The Magistrate, Miss Mercy Abikoye, ordered the accused to be remanded at Mandala Prison Yard, Ilorin.

She adjourned the case to Jan. 23  for mention. (NAN)
