PDP appoints caretaker c'ttees for Kwara, Sokoto

Date: 2014-01-08

National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday appointed a 14 member caretaker committee each for Kwara and Sokoto States.

The recent defection of the state governors from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) created a vacuum in the PDP in the two states as the governors who are leaders of the party moved with their structures to the APC.

The committee for Kwara has Solomon Edoja as chairman and Alhaji Jubril Bala Jos and Secretary while the Sokoto State committee has Abba Anas Adamu and Alhaji Ahmadu Suleiman as chairman and secretary respectively.

An announcement by the National Organising Secretary of the PDP Ahaji Abubakar Mustafa yesterday said the two committees will be inaugurated by the PDP national chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur on Thursday January 9 in Abuja.

Governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State and his Kwara State counterpart, Abdulfatah Ahmed as well as the governors of Rivers, Adamawa and Kano had defected from the PDP to the opposition APC, in November last year following a disagreement with the party's leadership which President Jonathan failed to resolve after several meetings.

The constitution of the caretaker committee is part of effort by the PDP national headquarters in collaboration with top party members in the states to revive the structures of the PDP in those states preparatory to general elections next year.

The other three states comprising Rivers, kano and Adamawa had structures  that were not under the control of the defecting governors hence may not need the intervention of the PDP national secretariat.
