2 Brothers Arraigned For Alleged Robbery

Date: 2013-09-26

An Ilorin Magistrates' Court on Tuesday remanded two brothers, Mohammed Abubarkar, 25, and Jaye Abubarkar, 22, for allegedly robbing Audi Jare and three others on 13 September.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Mojisola Olamokun, said that the accused allegedly robbed Jare near Kara Market in the Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara, northcentral Nigeria.

Olamokun told the court that the accused allegedly robbed their victim of N14,000 and other valuables at gun point.

He said that the victim shouted for help, which led to the arrest of the accused.

The prosecutor told the court that the offence was contrary to Sections 97 of the Penal Code and section 1 and 2 of the Armed Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act Cap RII, Law of Federation of Nigeria.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Olamokun urged the court not to grant the accused bail on grounds that the offences were not bail able.

The Magistrate, Mariam Qudus-Salahu ordered that the accused should be remanded in the Okekura Prison in Ilorin.

She adjourned the case till 7 October for mention.
