Date: 2012-04-10

Ilorin - Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki has stated his desire to set up a revolving loan scheme for youths in Kwara state to venture into agriculture.

Saraki made this known in Ilorin, Kwara state, during a chat with over 50 youths who are members of his social network. He promised to make funding available for youths in the state to embark on agriculture.

He said that the only way to eradicate unemployment across board was to take up agricultural production that would guarantee food security for the country.

He said that the fund which he hopes to disburse to the youths for the agriculture production would come as a revolving loan so as to enable more youths benefit from the gesture.

The former Governor said that massive agricultural production remained the only programme that would engage Nigerians and lead to a brighter future.

"Nigeria is blessed with so many natural re-sources particularly fertile land that people need to take advantage of but this has been neglected as people continue to search for white collar jobs that are not readily available," he said.

"If all the youths coming out of Nigeria institutions of higher learning are properly incorporated into agricultural production within a short period of time, the country will stop importing certain items and in turn start exporting".

According to him, if agriculture was properly implemented, it has more capacity to increase Nigeria's GDP than oil and other mineral resources.

He said that his intention was to find ways of assisting young graduates with funding to venture into agriculture so as to become self- reliant and employers of labour.

He urged them to take interest in making Nigeria a better place by engaging in productive ventures rather that things that would create problems and put their life in danger .

On security, the Senator urged the youths to see security of the country and that of their communities as a collective thing which must be given the required attention.

He advised them to be agents of change by enlightening themselves and others around them on the need to secure their environment against destructive elements in the societies.

He also urged them to alert and report any suspicion movement around them to the security agencies for immediate action, adding that they should take good advantage of the his 'ABS educational foundation' to further their education so that they will become good leaders of tomorrow.
