Kwara can no longer be under anyone's shadow - Belgore

Date: 2014-10-07

A former gubernatorial candidate of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Kwara State and current  Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant, Mohammed Dele Belgore (SAN) has said that the multiplicity of aspirants in the state chapter of the party shows that the state has risen beyond anyone singularly deciding who rules the state from their bedroom.

Belgore who stated this during an Eid-el-Kabir feast at his campaign office in Ilorin, said the development showed that there is internal democracy in the state chapter of the PDP.

He said: "Everyone has a say in PDP, unlike in the APC. That we have many aspirants in PDP is a sign of liberty, it is sign we have democracy. Recently their leader raised one person's hand and that was all. Everyone has cowered, they can no longer aspire. That is tyranny. It is not so in Kwara PDP.

"When did you ever have so many aspirants? Over 200 people have collected nomination forms for just 35 seats! That is historic. It was never so before. They only handpicked candidates. They have continued the same practice. Kwara can't continue under the shadow of anyone.

"Primaries are ahead of us and I urge our party delegates to consider two key things; who among these aspirants has ever confronted these guys without retreating? Who has never been with them before? Only one person will get the ticket. What is the point getting the ticket when you can't win?

"Ask them, who can win the majority votes among them? This is not about just getting the ticket; it is about winning majority votes. So who can truly win? Who does the majority of Kwarans want? Who has been the major subject of (APC) attack? APC has always attacked me. I have been their main target and this says something."

Belgore added that the time has come to end years of underdevelopment in Kwara stressing that PDP members must work hard to reclaim their "stolen mandate".

"Our elders have spoken and they are unanimous in their resolve that we have had enough in Kwara. In 1967, Kwara was created! A fool at 40 is a fool forever. States created after us have gone ahead to become something bigger in ratings. They keep saying nobody can be anything in Kwara unless they give their blessings, their nods. They are not God. They are no longer on ground. APC is gone for good in Kwara. PDP is the darling of all in Kwara" he stated.

The event was attended by former deputy governor of the state, Chief Joel Ogundeji, PDP state chairman, Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo, former aides to Dr Bukola Saraki and members of the state executives of the party among others.
