KWASU establishes School of Business
The Kwara State University (KWASU), North-Central Nigeria has established the School of Business and Governance with the aim of conducting in-depth and innovative research.
The research is to foster business, governance, nurture and produce transformational leaders for both private and public sectors of the economy.
The School which was carved from the College of Humanities, Management and Social Sciences of the Institution, is designed to meet both local and international standards.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na'Allah, disclosed this on Thursday at a Press Conference in Ilorin, the state capital.
Professor Na'Allah noted that as an Institution for community development, it was significant to pay particular attention to the kind of people that are given the responsibility to manage both the business and economic systems of the nation.
"We are all aware that the drivers of the economy of any nation are the business and economic managers. While the business managers drive the business system, the economic managers drive the economic system.
As a University, we have a responsibility to conduct first-class research and disseminate world-class education and in our effort to carrying out these responsibilities, we must organize ourselves in the most efficient and effective manner that will deliver the optimum results or goals", Na'Allah said.
According to him, the University decided to establish the School not to isolate business but as an attempt to research into and solve the identified problem and incorporate the management of the economy which is rested in governance.
He added that the School would research into the local business and political traditions to provide original ideas to strengthening the Nigerian business and political cultures in the twenty first-century.
"In proposing the establishment of the School of Business and Governance in Kwara State University, we conducted a careful study of the best Business Schools in the World.
As a University desirous of attaining a world class status, we cannot continue to ignore world best practices of coordinating and ensuring effective delivery of academic imperative", Na'Allah added.
He explained that establishing the KWASU School of Business and Governance would go a long way in actualizing the vision and mission statements of the University and as a strategic centre for human development and advancement in entrepreneurship.
Professor Na'Allah who said all the undergraduate programmes of the School had received full accreditation from the National Universities Commission, also announced that the Institution would commence Post graduate programmes this year.
