Gov. Ahmed, denies feud with godfather, Saraki

Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara has dispelled rumours of a feud between him and Sen. Bukola Saraki, the immediate past governor of the state, describing it as "mischievous and reckless."

Mr. Saraki is the governor's godfather, having helped to install him after unilaterally edging out other contenders for the position.

Mr. Ahmed said in a statement in Ilorin on Friday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Muideen Akorede, that their relationship was cordial.

 He described the rumour as a "lie propagated by opposition parties in order to cause disaffection between them ahead of the 2015 elections in the state.''

"Ours is a unique partnership based on mutual respect, which grows stronger daily due to our long history and standing commitment to making Kwara a model for other states in terms of economic growth and prosperity for the people.

"We are like a tag-team in which we are pulling our strengths together in a determined effort to build a greater Kwara for the benefit of posterity.

"Sen. Saraki is a man for whom I retain the highest regard and I am happy to state that the feeling is reciprocal.

"Our relationship, rather than wane, remains cordial and strong; the speculation is a figment of the opposition's imagination," the governor said.

He said his administration was a continuation of the immediate-past government, which made the state to record laudable successes by scaling up laudable programmes initiated by his predecessor.

The governor assured that his administration would remain focused on how to move the state forward, noting that 2015 was still 'far off.'
