We Cannot Be Bought - CPC Tells Saraki
The Kwara State chapter of Congress for Progressive Change(CPC) has firmly refuted the rumour and insinuation making round that the former governor of Kwara State and the leader of Peoples Democratic Party in the state, Senator Bukola Saraki has defected to the CPC in his calculations to hijack the structures of the new party, All Progressive Congress (APC), when it eventually got registered.
This was contained in a press release by the state chapter of CPC and signed by its Chairman, Alhaji Suleiman Buhari.
The party stated that, " there is no iota of truth in the allegation that the leadership of our Party has been hijacked and or bought over by Senator Bukola Saraki with a bid to taking over the structure of the All Progressive Congress (APC) when it is eventually registered.
"We state categorically that the State Chairman of the CPC, Alhaji Suleiman Buhari or any other members of our great party never held any meeting with Sen. Saraki or his representatives where the idea of his defection was ever discussed let alone agreed upon. As far as we know, the rumor is but a product of the figment of the imagination of mischief makers that are peddling it, with a sole bid to destabilize the fledging party in the state."
The statement further emphasized that; "CPC's position is informed by the fact that the members constituting the State Executive Committee of the party are honourable and would therefore not soil their hard earned names by falling cheaply for the antics or inducement of the ruling elite in the state at the detriment of the collective interest of the teeming members of our great party in particular and Kwarans in general."
It appealed to its party faithfuls, well wishers and general public to disregard such rumor as it was evidently the antics of mischief makers out to scuttle the goodwill of the party in Kwara State, especially in its march towards its merger with sister opposition party. It said the party would stop at nothing to get to the root of the malicious rumor and would carry along all stakeholders in its avowed commitment to entrench responsible democracy in the state in particular and the nation in general.
The CPC's latest release might not be unconnected with the allegation of compromise and financial impropriety leveled against the Alhaji Suleiman Buhari-led State Executive Committee (SEC) by a disgruntled section of the fledgling party in the state.
