PDP chairmanship not for greenhorns - Tukur

Date: 2012-03-19

An aspirant for the National Chairmanship of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, says the post is for "daddies" not for "greenhorns".

The former governor of old Gongola State is favourite for the position to be contested at the PDP convention in Abuja on Saturday.

He spoke when he visited Kwara State Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed in Ilorin on Sunday, according to a statement by the Governor's Chief Press Secretary, Alhaji Abdulwahab Oba.

The statement also said Ahmed and former Governor Bukola Saraki declared their support for Tukur's candidacy.

Tukur said if elected he would sustain equity, discipline and hope in the party.

He said, "The PDP needs someone who is not looking for a job, but a person with sufficient experience, maturity, honest, integrity and intellectual balance to restore peace, unity, discipline and support the transformation agenda of the Federal Government."

Ahmed said Tukur's experience would help the PDP if elected.

He assured Tukur of the support of Kwara State chapter of the party, adding that his experience in both public and private sectors would have given him advantage over others.

On his part, Saraki said the PDP needed a national chairman of Tukur's calibre "to transform the party and to enable the party to effective address future challenges".

He stated that PDP, given its large membership, Tukur, was the right choice.

Saraki, who is senator representing Kwara Central, said his support for Tukur's candidacy was to help in the transformation of the party.
